What books on qualitative research would you recommend?
There’s a screenshot of some great books that I’ve used in the past.
I was originally introduced to qualitative research through King, Keohane, and Verba’s Designing Social Inquiry, and since then it’s been a bit of a whirlwind. I tend to recommend the Rosenfeld Media research books to user researchers as well as Jan Chipchase’s field research books. There’s some great books that also talk about field research and stories from the field. Nothing beats experience though, and I’d suggest taking every opportunity to practice your interview technique you can - from trying to learn about your friends and colleagues, to chatting with uber drives and learning about their experiences. Pick a topic to learn about and simply practice facilitating a conversational flow.
I maintain a reading list on my github page that points to different books that’ve influenced my career, so there should be some good references there as well: https://github.com/readywater/reading-list
